Plaster, clay, sand, wax, plastic, text, video and sound (2023)

“There are more inviting places than the white, ruined and still half-burning room that Maëlle Tocaben presents us. Everything is broken and covered in plastic, there is sand and rubbish – can I come in here? Is it safe to go in here ? The adventurer is rewarded. White tiles of a kitchen floor is an installation, in which a story is told in different ways and with different materials about what it means to feel at home somewhere and what protection feels like. It is obvious that something happened, but what exactly does not seem to matter. It’s in the past now, part of memories that forever linger. The room extends far beyond the walls of the installation; before you know it, it walks right home with you.” text written by Merel Bem
